Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Accidents Archives

Do I need uninsured motorist coverage for my car?

Car insurance is one expense that may make you cringe when you make the payment, but if you are involved in an accident, you'll be very glad you had it. There are a number of different coverage options for car insurance, and it can be confusing trying to determine what you need and don't need. One of these coverages is uninsured motorist (commonly referred to as UM or UIM) coverage.

Who is liable in an accident involving an uninsured teen driver?

Getting into an accident with an uninsured or underinsured driver can be enormously upsetting. Rather than have your injuries and property damage covered by the other party's insurance, you could be left to cover the cost of these things on your own. If you don't have protection against uninsured motorists in your own policy, you can quickly realize that recovering from an accident will not be cheap or easy.

Who is covered by Personal Injury Protection insurance?

If you own a car or truck in Florida, you are expected to have insurance. How much insurance you have is up to you, but state laws require that your policy covers at least $10,000 in property damage liability as well as $10,000 in personal injury protection.

What options do you have if an uninsured driver crashes into you?

Most drivers are somewhat familiar with the steps that should be taken after a relatively minor motor vehicle crash. All involved parties are supposed to stop, pull off to the side of the road if possible, exchange insurance information and then go about the process of getting cars fixed and any injuries assessed.

Fine print can cause big problems for Florida motorists

When it comes to shopping for insurance, most people look at it as a numbers game. Essentially, we want to know how much we can get and what that's going to cost us. Whether you look at plans from two or 10 different companies, all the numbers and rates can add up to one big headache.

After a crash, what you don't know about insurance could hurt you

The aftermath of any car accident can be very upsetting. Car parts can be strewn across the road while the damaged vehicles sit broken down on the shoulder. Motorists and their passengers can be injured, immobile and very scared as they wait for ambulances or police officers to show up and help. There can be a lot of activity and anxiety.
