Five reasons semi trucks pose a threat to motorcyclists

No matter where you travel in the state of Florida, you're bound to see a semi truck hauling its trailer either somewhere in state or out of state. But while these road giants only make up approximately 12.5 percent of all registered vehicles in the United States, says Truckinginfo.net, the fact that there are more than 15 million in service on our roadways means we have a good chance of running into one -- quite literally in fact.

Wind Storm Damage Caused By Recent Hurricane

For any Floridian who has lived in the state through a major hurricane, it should not come as a surprise that a hurricane that strikes the East Coast of the state can produce serious wind storm damage on the West Coast. You do not have to be within the path of the hurricane's eye-or even within the bands outside it-to experience significant wind storm damage that can leave your home with serious property damage. Indeed, as a recent report from Bay News 9 explained, Hurricane Matthew moved relatively quickly out of Florida and never posed a risk of a direct hit to cities in West Central Florida, yet many of those locations experienced power outages as a result of the dangerous winds from this hurricane.

Does Florida Have a Tornado Season?

For anyone living in Sarasota or the Tampa Bay area, you might be wondering if you need to gear up for another eventful tornado season that could lead to significant property damage. But wait-does Florida actually have a tornado season? Last year around this same time, residents of West Central Florida were eagerly waiting for hurricane season to come to a close (which ends November 30 in Florida). Yet just a short time later, the Gulf Coast experienced a number of very serious storms that produced damaging tornadoes.

Protecting Yourself from Wrong-Way Car Accidents

Has the recent rise in wrong-way crashes in the Tampa Bay area become a problem that will not soon go away? Last spring, a Hillsborough Sheriff's deputy suffered fatal injuries in a wrong-way collision on the Selmon Expressway, according to a report from WMNF 88.5, the Tampa area's listener-supported community radio station. In response to previous wrong-way crashes that have occurred in the area, "Wrong-Way Driver Alert" signs began appearing overhead on I-275, warning drivers in the St. Petersburg area of the serious risks of these dangerous car accidents.

Defective Samsung Products Are Causing Personal Injuries

The risk of personal injury posed by the product defect is not a minor one, as the recall notice from Samsung's website emphasizes that the "affected devices can overheat and pose a safety risk." What that language does not say is that the defective battery actually causes the phones to explode and to catch on fire, according to an article in The Wall Street Journal. Now, news is coming out that the replacement devices-those that were supposed to be free of defects-may also face a recall.
